What she thought
A website can be revised until it lies. A page you can hold cannot. I wanted the work — the milestones, the ugly dates, the children’s drawings — to have a form that does not refresh. A press is a promise to finish a thought.
Stories is a library. The Press is what happens when the letters want a spine. I teach meaning by creating it. Some meaning needs paper.
What wants a spine.
01
The journal
Field notes from the house. Dated. Unpolished on purpose.
02
The children’s book
They write. I bind. The press is not a brand speaking to kids.
03
The annual
One year of the movement, so the story cannot be edited later.
04
The letter
The one I already send. The press begins with a stamp, not a catalog.
Four signatures to start: a journal of the house, a book the children can author, an annual of the year we actually lived, and the letter I already send. Print when the chapter is true. No seasonal drop of essays I do not believe.
I am still collecting the pages. Binding comes last. That is the point.
The letters
Stories already exists. The press begins by taking them seriously.
The first signature
One bound thing. Small. True. Held.
The annual
A year of the movement, dated, so I cannot rewrite the year.
A letter, not a blast. The press is that sentence, bound.
If they cannot write a page of the book, it is not a family press.

- 02Can a press stay small enough to remain honest?
