What she thought
Every chapter I care about already happens at dinner. The shop makes the objects. School happens in the talk. Superhuman happens in the food. Hotel is a table you travel to. I was building a table without naming it. That felt dishonest.
Sit at the table. I have been saying it in the stories. This is the project that takes the sentence seriously — as a practice, a collection, a way of teaching.
Dinner as curriculum.
01
Bread
Arrival. Hands busy. The day put down.
02
Oil
Greek, obviously. Abundance you can taste.
03
Salt
The edit. What we keep. What we leave.
04
Conversation
The lesson. Children speak. Phones do not.
05
Fruit
Sweetness after the work. Celebration as a course.
06
Light
The last object. NOR on the table. Night allowed in.
Design the meal as meaning. The vessels already exist. What is missing is the rite: how we sit, what we ask, what the children make, what we refuse to have on screens. A curriculum of courses. Maybe a book. Maybe a residency. First, our own week.
I will keep setting it. The project is the setting.
The sentence
Sit at the table. Written before I knew it was a project.
The practice
Our own dinners as the laboratory. No product yet. The product is the hour.
The rite, written
A way other families can borrow without buying a lifestyle.
These are not essays about living well. They are the rooms I actually live in. The table is the first of them.
Meaning is not a speech. It is the object in your hand — and the family that lives with it.
